Environment Quiz on Ecosystem – multiple choice questions and answers
Quiz on
Ecosystem: Ecosystem
is the interrelation and interaction of living species with their non-living
environment in a specified habitat. Life on earth may be different in different
environments from geological conditions and therefore diversity related to
different types of ecosystems such as terrestrial ecosystem, forest ecosystem,
grassland ecosystem, desert ecosystem, aquatic including the freshwater and
marine ecosystem and it can be called biodiversity ecosystem.
Quizzes are the
best way to test your knowledge on different subjects, learning outcomes and
identify your strengths and weaknesses to plan further study. It also offers an
interesting way to learn new things with joy and fun.
This quiz on ecosystem helps you understand the
meaning of ecosystem, types of ecosystem including terrestrial, freshwater, and
marine water ecosystem, different habitat, importance of ecosystem, food chain,
abiotic and biotic components, functions
of ecosystem and much more.
This questionnaire on ecosystem can be shared
with employees, colleagues, friends, children or with the community to make
them aware about the importance of ecosystem, food chain and healthy
environment. This quiz on ecosystem can also be used as an
important tool to raise awareness of ecosystem sustainability by preventing the
environment pollution, respecting earth and life on it.
This ecosystem quiz features 20 multiple choice
questions and answers, with each question having four answer options. You must
select the correct one by click on it, flashing green indicates the correct
answer, while red is the wrong answer. At the end of the quiz, your total score
will appear.
Let's
start the quiz and test your knowledge about ecosystem.

To learn more about managing ecosystem,
keep reading the following information that will definitely help you think
differently.
How do you define the ecosystem?
Ecosystem
can be defined as an interrelation and interaction of living species with their
non-living environment in a specified habitat and is one of the types of
biodiversity.
What is ecosystem biodiversity?
Life on
earth may be different in different environments from geological conditions and
therefore diversity related to different types of ecosystems such as Aquatic
ecosystem (fresh water and marine water ecosystem) and Terrestrial
ecosystem(forest ecosystem, grassland ecosystem, desert ecosystem) is called as
biodiversity ecosystem.
All types of ecosystems have biodiversity and different
species from one ecosystem may not survive in another ecosystem, for example,
species of the aquatic ecosystem cannot survive in the desert ecosystem.
What are the types of ecosystem?
The ecosystem is mainly of two types
1. Terrestrial ecosystem (life on land)
2. Aquatic ecosystem (life in water)
The terrestrial ecosystem is again divided into different categories
based on geological areas / environment.
a. Forest ecosystem
b. Grassland ecosystem
c. Tundra ecosystem
d. Desert ecosystem
The aquatic ecosystem is again divided into different
categories based on geological areas / environment.
a. Fresh water ecosystem
b. Marine water ecosystem
What is structure of ecosystem?
Ecosystem structure is a description of the prevailing
climatic conditions, physical characteristics of the environment, types of
species, their interrelationships and their interaction through the
organization of biotic and abiotic components in a particular habitat.
What are the components of ecosystem structure?
The structure of an ecosystem is divided into two components,
but they are interrelated and interacted with each other’s.
1. Biotic: This
component of ecosystem is referring to all living organism and again subdivided
into three categories as Producer (Autotrophs), Consumer (Heterotrophs) and
Decomposers (Saprotrophs)
a. Autotrophs or Producer: It
includes primary producer such as plants as they produce their food through
photosynthesis by utilizing direct energy from sun.
b. Heterotrophs or Consumer: It
includes organisms who are depends on other organism for food and further
categories into four classes
b-1. Primary consumer: Herbivores that depends on plants for
energy/food
b-2. Secondary consumer: Carnivore or omnivore depends on
plants or other organism for energy/food
b-3. Tertiary consumer: Carnivore or omnivore but depends on
secondary consumers for food
b-4. Quaternary consumer: They are depends on tertiary
consumers and at top of the food chain as they have no natural predators.
c. Decomposers or Saprotrophs: It
includes microorganism such as bacteria and fungi.
2. Abiotic: This
component is referring to non-living part of ecosystem such as atmosphere which
includes soil, air, water, soil, minerals, sunlight, temperature, nutrient,
magnetism, wind, climate, rain, heat, altitude, turbidity, snow, etc.
What is food chain?
It is a circular flow of energy from producer to consumers,
from consumer to decomposers and then from decomposers to primary consumers to
continue the cycle.
What is ecological pyramid?
It is a graphical representation of energy, biomass, and
producer-to-consumer numbers for a specific ecosystem. Pyramids are shapes
keeping the producers at the base followed by the primary and secondary
consumers and the tertiary consumers or sometimes the quaternary consumers are
represented at the top.
Summary
The Ecosystem Environmental Quiz can be shared
with your employees, community and school children to educate them about the
importance of the ecosystem, its types, function, ecosystem pyramid and food
chain.
Education, awareness and law enforcement are the most
effective ways to preserve ecosystems. Knowledge of environmental management
helps people to optimize energy use, preserve natural resources, control
pollution, respect the life of all species and take care of the earth for our
sustainable future. This Ecosystem Quiz is designed to cover all
the relevant information about the different types of ecosystems and to
understand the importance of the food chain in keeping our planet healthy.
