Importance of National Safety Day
The celebration of National Safety Day reminds employees and
business owners of their responsibilities and commitments to the safety of
people, the community, the environment and national property.
Every year, the National Safety Council of India
decides on the topic of Safety as theme and advises the organization to
organize the Safety campaign to raise awareness of the importance of Safety
measures. Throughout the campaign, the best safety practitioners are also
motivated and thus help develop a positive safety culture in organizations and
the community.
History of National Safety Day
With the rapid industrialization, the accident rate increased
significantly, which is why the Indian Ministry of Labour recommended
establishing the National Safety Council at the 22nd conference in 1962 to
promote the campaign on accident prevention measures in all hazardous industries.
This recommendation was accepted at the 24th conference of the standing labour
on February 14, 1966 in Delhi under the chairmanship of Mr. Jagjeevan Ram.
The National Safety Council was formed on 4th
March 1966 and National Safety Day declared to celebrate on 4th
March as the founding day of the National Safety Council (NSC) India. First Safety Day was celebrated in 4th March, 1972 since then it is continue.
It was also decided that the safety campaign will be organized
for a week across the country to raise awareness on the importance of safety,
health and the environment.
Every year, the National Safety Council announces the Safety
theme for the organization of a special campaign.
