What do you mean by waste?

What are the sources of Waste?

Waste can be generated or collected from various sources and can be listed as below
1. Domestic: Waste generated during the various day-to-day activities such as plastic water bottles, food, kitchen items, papers, packaging material, etc
2. Industrial: Waste generated during different industrial processes such as wastewater, sludge, slope oil, concrete debris, scrape metal, scrap wood, scrap plastic, air contaminants, etc.
3. Agriculture: Agricultural activities generate different waste products such as used containers of pesticides, packages, crop residue, manure and other wastes from farms, poultry houses and slaughterhouses, harvest waste, fertilizer bags, etc.

1. Wet waste:  Biodegradable items such as food, fruits pill, cooking oil, or automobile waste like grease or industrial liquids such as sludge oil, water effluents, and other organic waste usually are high moisture contained, heavy in weight due to dampness.
2. Dry waste: Items such as plastic, glass, metal,  wood and related products, sawdust, textile, papers, cardboards, furniture. Etc. those are with very less moisture contents are dry waste.
Classification of waste according to their effect on human health and environment
1. Hazardous waste: Hazardous wastes may be toxic, harmful to humans, animals and plants as well these wastes may catch fire i.e. combustible, flammable or explosive. Hazardous waste may be reactive, corrosive, and radioactive. This type of waste can be from hospital industrial or even domestic in origin.
2. Non-hazardous waste:  It does not have any harmful effect on environment or life on Earth. Non-hazardous waste can be classified  according to their properties as biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste.
Classification of waste according to their organic properties
1. Biodegradable waste: It is organic waste which can be easily broken down by the action of microorganisms over the time. It includes waste fruits, vegetables, flowers, plants and dead animals, wastewater, wastepaper, etc.  that converted into simpler units and then we can use them as fertilizers, manure, compost, biogas, etc.
2. Non degradable wastes:  Waste that cannot be broken down by microorganisms and will remain on the earth for years until we properly manage them are called as non-biodegradable waste. It includes plastics, polystyrene, rubbers, glass, metals, and aluminum cans, toxic chemicals, paints, tyres, etc.
Classification of waste by special category
E-Waste:  Electrical equipment waste including old television, waste computers, machines, batteries, etc.  fall under a special category of waste called E-waste or Waste Electronic or Electrical Equipment (WEEE).

This may lead to environment pollution and harmful to humans and environment.  To control these undesirable activities, there must be some rules and regulations.
